Welcome to first grade! My name is Amy Chapman and I will be your child’s teacher this year. This is my ninth year to teach first grade here in Hutto.
This special age group is so eager and willing to learn that it makes teaching a pleasure!
Already at six, children are aware that they have individual strengths and weaknesses. My goal is for each child to feel successful, confident and trusting of his or her own capabilities. Knowing that they are respected and valued by adults and their peers will help build self-confidence and self-esteem. This will encourage academic achievement, as well as create a positive, cooperative attitude toward others, and for future school and learning experiences.
I will send home 1 reading book a day for your child to practice reading at home. Please have your child read this book to you and send it back to school each day.
A weekly spelling list will go home with your child each Monday. Please feel free to have your child practice these words any way they would like. I want each child to have fun practicing their spelling words. I will not require students to turn anything into me for their spelling homework.
Your child will get a math packet each Monday. This packet is a review of the skill that we are learning in math for that week. Math packets are due back to me each Friday.
